Attention users: The DrumMic’a! Project is closing down as of February 15th, 2021. We will provide additional details where the Drum Samples will still be available for download after the 15th here. Thank you for being a user.

With DrumMic’a!, you pimp the sound of your music productions.

DrumMic’a! is an extremely elaborately produced virtual instrument for Native Instruments KONTAKT . Among other things, it comprises, more than 13,000 audio samples and around 20,000 lines of program code. What to expect: 15 Sennheiser and Neumann microphones on a genuine drum set, recorded in a real, professional studio, reworked through the integrated software studio. Plus 1,200 authentic beats played by a lively professional drummer. The special thing about it: DrumMic’a! can be used in virtually any digital audio workstation and for your own productions. And best of all: Sennheiser and Neumann provide the software as part of a freeware licence!

Please note: Sennheiser has been providing DrumMic’a! as a library for KONTAKT and KONTAKT PLAYER for more than 7 years now. We are happy about a large community with more than 120.000 users from over 250 countries and thank all of those who have joined our offer during this exiting project phase.

As our close partnership with Native Instruments phased out and NI discontinued the Service Center Serial management end of May 2020, we decided to offer DrumMic’a! as free 3rd party library for KONTAKT to our fans. This means that existing DrumMic’a! installations can be used without limitations, but new installations will include a non-removable time-out for the Instrument when loaded in the KONTAKT PLAYER* freeware. This limit is not applied in the full version of KONTAKT.

Also, installation will be slightly different from the process in the past.

We provide you with detailed instructions for installation and loading DrumMic’a! in KONTAKT during the download procedure.

  • Is it essential to have KONTAKT on my computer?

  • I would like to install the virtual DrumMic’a! drum set. Why do I need Native Instruments KONTAKT software too?

    • KONTAKT 5 Player is a widely used software sampling platform from Native Instruments, a successful manufacturer of hardware and software for music productions. It is compatible with all professional "Powered by KONTAKT" instruments, and other sample-based instruments from third parties.
To keep software like DrumMic’a! permanently compatible with every operating system and versions of recording programs involves a tremendous amount of work. Sennheiser used the KONTAKT platform for developing the DrumMic’a! software in the knowledge that a large team of developers are constantly checking that the interfaces are still up to date with other programs. This would not be possible in-house at Sennheiser or Neumann."

  • What's all this about software? Have Sennheiser and Neumann stopped selling microphones?

    • DrumMic’a! represents a special drum kit that is captured in terms of its basic sound. This enables you to discover, in the simplest way possible, the acoustic impact of different types and positions of microphones on the individual instruments. However, it’s not just a case of one drum set fits all when it comes to the recording world...... depending on the band, song etc. drummers mostly prefer their own set and recording room, sometimes the drum set is tuned to the key of the song, or special cymbals, snares or skins are used to create a desired sound. Looked at this way, software products like DrumMic’a! and electronic synthesizers only produce a limited selection of the drum sound possible in a music production. THE universal drum tool that can reproduce every sound concept accurately will probably never exist.

  • I have downloaded DrumMic’a! onto my computer but I can't see any folder structure in the BEATS menu. How can I solve this problem?

    • This phenomenon can occur on a small number of computers but it can be easily fixed. This is due to special formatting settings on the system hard drive.

The solution: look for the folder "Midi Files" in the program folder and rename this "MIDI Files" with MIDI written in capital letters. When you then reload DrumMic’a! in KONTAKT it should be there.
